We need to own ourselves & our skin tones: Hania Aamir on colorism

Ishqiya famed actress Hania Aamir always manage to win the hearts of fans with her acting skills and cute. Moreover, people also love her fashion sense.

Hania is among those celebrities who address various issues of society. This time, the Parwaz Hai Junoon actress took it to Instagram to talk about colorism.

She shared that one of her friends suggested that she needs a ‘tan’. Upon which, Hania talked about the rising issue of colorism in our society.

Highlighting the general mindset of our society about natural skin tones, Hania spoke:

Gori hai tou chitti hai, dark complexion hai you gori kyu nahi hojati? (If she’s fair, it’s too fair, and if she has a dark complexion, why doesn’t she lighten it?)

Adding more to it, she said:

I think it’s high time that we start having these conversations. When will we stop being insecure about the way we look? We need to own ourselves, we need to own our skin tones.

Hania also talked about pressure girls feel to maintain beauty standards:

Buhat burey beauty standards hain (These beauty standards are really wrong) and we don’t need to follow them.

She thinks we have to shape our upcoming generations regarding this issue:

If we talk about this more and eradicate this mindset this now then the generations to come won’t have to go through what we go through.

She ended up with inspiring words:

Let’s realize that we don’t need to fit in and that the world needs to fit us as we are.
