Quratulain Qamar Choudry launched the brand ‘KAIROS’ in April 2015 and on Friday, 10th July introduced her wearable art collection at the KOEL Gallery. As a sculptor, Choudry has been working with clocks and mechanisms since her university days and the idea behind KAIROS was derived from her thesis.
When speaking to the artist about her collection, and what she hopes to achieve with it we learn that she wishes to reconstruct time and make it stop for just a moment. In line with the essence of time, the idea of wearable art came into existence seven months ago and the whole collection took four to five months to reshape, design, and construct; and from there we received stunning, mechanical works of art.
Choudry’s collection is a unique take on jewelry, and cannot simply be put into that category rather into a completely new one that of wearable art. Her pieces are a variety of clock installations utilized to take the form of pendants, rings, cuff-links, earrings, buttons, and brooches ranged from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 18,000.
The exhibition attracted art and jewelry enthusiasts from all over Karachi, as well as buyers from other cities in Pakistan who reserved pieces for themselves over the phone.
The event was organized by KOEL and the PR is being handled by Phegency PR & Events.
