The filmmakers of HeerMaanJa have been on a roll lately, giving us one music video after another, and making it difficult for us to anticipate the final release of the movie this Eid ulAzha. This weekend, the slow, melancholic song ‘Chan Mahi’ was released on various platforms and created an emotional stir in the audience.
The song envelopes all kinds of heart-breaking emotions in it, while at the same time makes you feel like you’re a part of the story. Sung by Abdullah Qureshi, a hint of sadness and heartbreak enhances the emotion-inducing number. The lyrics of the song by Abdullah Qureshi himself along with Kinza Razzak deserve to be applauded for the intensity of feelings they have managed to express.
The thing that has left us hooked is the way Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman Khan have played their part in each music video. Where we can see Ali dance to the bhangra beat in Addi Maar and Hareem get her groove on in the title track, here we can see both of them give us all kinds of sad vibes. The versatility both the actors seem to be depicted in this movie is extremely impressive.
The pain that Heer and Kabeer go through, the deep sense of loss and betrayal, and an urge to look for some respite in each other, away from their disturbed lives– all emotions can be seen in Chan Mahi, which turns out to be an absolute tearjerker. We are already in awe of the chemistry between the two and this song is no exception. Kudos to the director of the movie Azfar Jafri and the production team for some excellent cinematography.
Above all, hats off to Abdullah Qureshi for this masterpiece. The slow pace of this number, the soul-touching quality of his voice along with the soft pitch to match the lyrics are all spot on. Not to forget the acoustic chorus of “Terayishqnachayasoniye” adds to the feel of the song.
Eid ulAzha is just a few days away and we can’t wait to finally see what the story of Heer and Kabeer really is.
